I’ve been trying to figure out which productivity app actually fits my workflow. Both WHPH (Work Hard Play Hard) and Super Productivity keep coming up, so I thought it was worth comparing them properly.

WHPH (Work Hard Play Hard)

WHPH is a general-purpose productivity app. It does several things: tracks your tasks, monitors which apps you use and for how long, helps you build habits, and gives you a basic sense of where your time goes. The sync between desktop and mobile happens over your local network – no cloud, no account, just devices talking to each other.

It’s available on Android, Windows, and Linux. The app usage tracking is probably its most distinctive feature – it tells you which applications you spend the most time on, which can be a bit of a wake-up call.

Super Productivity

Super Productivity is built for developers. It’s a todo app with timeboxing, Pomodoro timer, and integrations with GitHub, GitLab, Jira, and Open Project. It pulls your work items from these platforms so you’re not context-switching between tools.

The app works offline and stores everything locally. There’s no cloud sync option, which some people see as a limitation but others see as a feature – your data stays yours.

What’s the difference?

The main split is who they’re built for. WHPH is aimed at anyone wanting to track habits and app usage. Super Productivity is for developers who need their task list connected to their code repositories and project management tools.

WHPH tracks which apps you use. Super Productivity doesn’t – it assumes your work is in GitHub, GitLab, or Jira. WHPH has habit tracking built in. Super Productivity doesn’t – it’s focused on getting work done, not building routines.

Both are open source. Both keep your data local. The question is whether you need app-level monitoring and habit tracking, or deep integration with your development workflow.

If I had to pick one for myself, it would depend on what kind of day I’m having. Some days I need to know which apps are eating my time. Other days I just want to get the next ticket done.
